Pothole & driveway repair
What I do Est. 2025 · RD 1 Winton

Pothole & driveway repair,
fixed for good.

A pothole is not really the problem - it is the symptom. Water sits, wheels pump it, and the hole grows every time it rains. I cut potholes and corrugations out of gravel driveways, farm entrances, yards and tracks across Southland, then re-lay a compacted surface with enough fall that the water finally has somewhere to go.

How I do it

What the job involves

Anyone can drop a shovel of gravel in a hole. The reason my repairs last is that I fix what made the hole in the first place.

01
Find out why the hole is there
Every pothole started as water that could not get away. Before I fix the hole I work out where that water needs to go, otherwise you are paying for the same repair twice.
02
Cut it out, not fill it in
The power rake cuts the failed surface right out - hole, soft edges and all - down to a sound base. Loose gravel tipped into a wet hole is gone by the weekend, so I do not do that.
03
Re-lay, shape and compact
The surface goes back with a proper fall or crown, blended with fresh metal where it is needed, and compacted so it knits together instead of scattering.
04
Whole surface, not just craters
While the machine is there it usually pays to run over the corrugations and scalloped edges too, so the whole driveway comes right in one visit.

The payoff

Why it is worth doing properly

A driveway full of holes costs you every single day - in tyres, in teeth-rattling trips to the gate, and eventually in a full rebuild.

Fixed once, not every winter

Because the repair sheds water instead of collecting it, the same hole does not reappear in the first wet week of June.

Cheaper than waiting

A pothole left over winter lets water into the base, and a failed base is a far bigger job than a surface repair. Early is cheap, late is not.

Everything rides better

The tanker, the ute, the school run and the stock truck all stop crashing through the same crater at the gate. It is a small thing that improves every single trip.

No surprises

What I will tell you straight

What I sort

  • Potholes, ruts and corrugations in any gravel or metal surface
  • Driveways, farm entrances, tanker loops, yards and tracks
  • Soft spots cut out and rebuilt so they stop pumping mud

What I will be straight about

  • I work in gravel, not asphalt - if your sealed driveway is breaking up, you need a sealing crew and I will say so
  • If the whole driveway has lost its shape, patching three holes is throwing money at it - I will price a full regrade and you can choose what suits
